ALICE IN WELFARELAND
Warren Row. 1984. Alice falls down a rabbit-hole into a nuclear bunker. While some quaint characters suggest the original Lewis Carroll; others sit within spitting (image) distance of silly Celebs including the raunchy Boss of Education's Hard-boiled Eggzams, Humpty Dumpty!

Bursting with fun and curiosity, this feisty convent girl collects alarming adventures under ground on the way to a hot Oxford picnic and her destined adult admirer, a stuffy Dean in spats.

Current prejudices get lovingly lampooned, as are the ideals of the hippy Survivalists underground. Alice also loves challenging her guiding voice, plump Humphrey, the psychic computer 'ghost' for whom she falls. Using disguises they battle against the ruthless charms of the Police Commissioner. He's determined to snatch the Vril Rod of Power held by Kal, King of the Underworld in Rainbow Mountain.
Breathless safaris in time and space flourish as different forms of Alice are chased through the Garden of Grossocks, battered by Pupes, befriended by seven dwarfs, entombed in a shrinking pyramid as the final cosmic battle rages around her helplessness. Warfare confronts Welfare while the Scars V the Saffs try to annihilate each other, war augmented by earthquakes, radiation leaks and occult weapons.

Will Alice and Humphrey make it before she meets her adult admirer, that long-awaited shy and stam-m-ering mathematician on Oxford's riverbank, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. ..?
Many more effervescent questions are explored in ALICE in WELFARELAND The new novel faction by Christopher Gilmore

Here are three reviews by teachers:

War and Peace is an excellent resource which promotes good discussion and has engendered thought provoking responses from students. The DVD deals sensitively with the issues and maintains a high level of academic rigour. It has proved an invaluable resource for this department.
{Carmel Long, Hereford Sixth Form College}

Clear, concise explanations, edited together with views from a variety of people including A level students make for a resource that will appeal to both KS4 and AS and A2 students alike. The material covered is bang up to date and incorporates eye-catching footage that will grab the attention of the most laissez faire student. A DVD that you will have to respond to, no matter what your moral position. I see War and Peace as becoming as essential a resource as Joe Jenkins' textbooks have been for many of us over the years. Recommended!
{Wayne Smith, Head Of Religious Education, The Minster College , Leominster}

The resources are ideal for any pupil regardless of their ability. They provided lots of classroom discussion and encouraged pupil enquiry. Energetic, entertaining and engrossing. I really do feel that the young people used on the films have more effect on our pupils who are willing to listen to their views probably more so than a teacher!
